Greetings from Saint Petersburg, FL!
Hello all! I'm excited to join BF. There is a great biking culture in St. Pete and I am a proud beginner, eager to learn.
2013 was the most trying year I have yet to experience. It was filled with tragic loss, heart wrenching goodbyes, and a lot of heading down a dark path trying to navigate the grieving process. I was a lost soul searching for a way to cope, and self medication seemed to be the only answer. Momentary numbing was my escape and the downward spiral began. Luckily for me, I was able to pull myself out of it before any serious life or health complications. A friend recommended biking and described how liberating and therapeutic it was for him. At first I didn't really read too much into it. I would ride, but the continual fog of hangovers and misery were always looming. It was on an exceptional late night ride that I experienced a potentially life saving revelation. It was like my soul hit the alarm clock and it wasn't about to offer a snooze button. The quiet city and open roads were calling me to find a better way. Since that night I have once again found a purpose. I am beyond grateful for this new lease on life, and just having the simple joy in knowing that everything will be ok!
The threads here are such a great resource for questions, which for me range greatly as a novice I look forward to learning, and someday being able to help newbies like myself find their biking niche.
Cheers!

As of right now a Mongoose mountain bike. I'm searching craigslist to try and find one but I'm pretty inexperienced and working with a limited budget.

Thanks all. It's good to know I can keep riding and get somewhere without a crutch!
