Greetings from Down Under

I used to be a runner until recently when my doctor recommended I take up cycling to get rid of a couple of niggling injuries. So I went to the local department store and got a cheap bike intending to use it for short 1/2 hour rides a few times a week. Next thing I know I started using it to commute to work.

Then last week I went on my first group ride from the LBS. Talk about being the odd one out, everyone else there had their fancy road bikes and here am I with my 35 lbs clunker with 2 inch tires! I'm now looking to upgrade my bike but may try to hold off until I have biked through the winter before deciding what type of bike is best. This cycling sure can get addictive!

You might want to keep your clunker to use when it's wet.

In which city do you reside?

I try to avoid riding in wet weather, so hopefully that won't be much of an issue. Depending on what kind of bike I get next, I may still carry on using it as a commuter.

I live in Auckland.

Well seeing as you live in Kiwi land, the 'Aussie' thread isn't going to be of much interest to you. There is a 'kiwi' thread that surfaces sporadically but it's usually actually about cycling, whereas the Aussies tend to carry on about anything and everything.

Are you a Blues fan?

I always thought down under meant Australia. I've been ripped off.

Contrary to what some people may say, we'll welcome you at the Aussie Thread. Where else can you piss away your time with idle chatter about rugby, footy, perving sheilas and even the occasional post about cycling. Kiwis are welcome, as none of us own any sheep.

Cheers

[edit] There's also a wealth of cycling info there, and the guys are all top blokes. Makes me wonder why Haagen doesn't show up there...

about 1.5hours drive south of Auckland, and 45 minutes inland from Raglan which is on the west coast. About 120,000 people and a traffic problem, pretty flat with plenty of cyclists and bike shops. Mint. Already been hit by a car though.

You're not going to start bragging again about stealing Aussie chics out from under our noses while in New Zealand... again... are you?

He's under strict instructions to remain within the Lounge and Foo. Special dispensation is required to go anywhere else.

Brendon

Is that anywhere near the car museum? Sounds familiar.

Anzac Day: The Aussie Thread road bike boys are doing a mountain bike ride with a Seppo. Thread hijacked, corruption will be complete. I can then return to my home country.

HaagenDas already has something going with jarhead's da-da-da-da-da-da-da thread in Foo. Sounds just too similar for my liking!!!

Achly, if ya wanna hijack a thread, how about this:

Would you rather watch a footy match or a funeral? On three out of four TV channels? (we're deprived down here in Hobart).
