New to forum -- from Pasadena, California
Hi. Bicycles have been part of my life since I was 5 years old, though for many long periods in my life it was a kind of "waiting in the wings" character as I did other things. When I first hitchhiked to California (San Jose) from New York State in 1972, I bought a 10 speed bicycle with those drop handlebars. Outrageous. It was an entry level Peugeot, in white. That got stolen three years later (Los Angeles) but in 1981 I bought another Peugeot (Hemet, CA), a better one, that I rode hard for 8 years before switching to Mountain Bikes and a Fisher ( Westwood, CA) which took me up to 1998 (and two further mountain bikes) when I stopped riding until 2008 when I bought a road bike (Sunland, CA) and then in 2012 I got more fully back into things with two Specialized Carbon bikes (One road, one mountain) and just recently built up a track steel frame (Swobo Sanchez) for Urban use (Pasadena, CA) and this last is a bike that I will shamelessly admit has stolen my bike soul. Though I do love my Roubaix and Stumpjumper too. Now I an fully "passioned" by bicycles. Finally, at 66 years old, "I get it". It's more than metal. IT ALWAYS WAS, TOO.
This forum is interesting to me as it is diverse and doesn't seem to be too populated with opinion Nazis and their strident goose steps toward "groupstupid" conformity. Just folks genuinely loving all things bicycle. One thing I particularly noted -- which I like -- is that most folks have everyday machines and not the latest marketing incarnation of bike perfection.
