Strained Muscles

I figured I'd post this in here because we're all going through about the same phase in terms of muscular development. I did the Wednesday night training race in my area last week and thursday I started randomly getting this piercing pain when I would walk. This continued through to friday when I started a short backpacking trip that went through sunday. I didn't feel it at all while on the trip and I was carrying a ~50 pound load. Then it started coming back monday and tuesday and is coming on much more frequently now. I tried going for a ride this morning, but I couldn't get past the end of my street as it would just hurt at the top of the stroke every time. I'm thinking it might be a strained quad, but I have no idea. My next real race isn't until August 10th, so I was wondering if anybody had experienced this before and what you did for it.

A lot of times after very hard rides I'll get a sharp pain in my left quad just above my knee (inside part of the leg muscle, I don't know exactly how to pinpoint it). I believe it might just have to do with muscle imbalance and/or pushing harder with one leg during your rides (ie. left vs. right power). I'm no doctor though, if it's really serious you should see yours.

If you can't even ride out of your street, then you should probably stop and rest for a bit.

Take an easy week. Little ring spins only. Go see a Physio if it keeps up.

That's what I'm doing, going to see the doctor tomorrow, I just wanted to see if anyone had encountered anything similar.

How often are you seeing your massage therapist? During the race season you should be going pretty often.

You're doing Highway to Heaven? That's a wonderful six minutes of pain. Three if you're super fast.

I'm not sure if you're joking about the first part, am I supposed to have one?

Nope, not Highway to Heaven, I'm too heavy to be any good at that. I'm doing the tour de millersburg.

Um, yeah, if you're at all serious about cycling. Not only does it make a huge difference in recovery, the effects are long-lasting and will make you a faster cyclist. You'll also figure out if you're pedaling evenly or not (using both legs somewhat evenly).

I mean, I'm 18 and only just now Cat 4 and starting college full time in the fall, so I don't think that being "at all serious" is an option at this point.
