Question Getting into bigger teams

Hi
I'm a junior cyclist.

I'm looking to get into a racing team next year preferably a top club or elite team. What I actually want to know is should I approach the team I'd like to ride for or should I get the results needed and wait for them to approach me ?

Any help would be appreciated !

Thanks

It depends on how old you are and what results you already have. If you don't have any results, you're not likely to get anywhere. Are you Cat 3 on road yet?

Most of the time, if you're what the team is looking for, the team will come after you.

Ride and the teams will contact you if they're interested.

Usually you need to beat them. That usually gets their attention. It worked for a local just-turned-Senior racer around here. Last year he won two races locally, solo each time, beating two guys from Jelly Belly while winning (as well as other pro teams in the bigger of the two races). This year he's racing for Jelly Belly. They went looking for him, not the other way around.

Best way to do it is go to national level races and ride well, preferably top 10-20. Obviously the better your results the less you need. Then start contacting different teams. It helps to start with those are based in your local region, unless you are good enough to get on a Continental team which they'll take you wherever you live as they haves the budget to get you to where you need to get.

Do you have a race resume?

We did that and I think it can be too busy.

I ask because we didn't get a response even though rider was better ranking and more winning than their existing riders. So I was wondering what directors want to see.

I was thinking it might look more like a professional work resume that also had interests / goals, training, coaches, awards and just showed a limited list of the most significant races. Does anyone use video?

Has anyone received/done that?

I don't see anything wrong with introducing yourself to teams you'd like to ride with. At the dev level, coaches / parents are generally pretty happy to have new kids. They'll let you know what their requirements are.

Son & I developed one. I'll see if I can find and post an example (had some computer storage problems, so have to find other ways ).

+1 and introducing yourself to a local team. Enthusiasm and boldness counts almost anywhere.

Here's some samples...

The resume isn't finished yet, as we have a few data pieces to put in and some other stuff. The first item is just a resume with highlights. The second was a comprehensive list of all results. We made it to be available if someone should want to see it.
