2 weeks in going car light: now Road Rage

So, as most of you know, recently departed with the car is wasn't using. Now there is little option but to bike most everywhere I go, but we do have a car in the family. This morning I had more groceries than able to be carried in my trailer, too little time, and moderately rainy weather so I took the car. I could not believe had much road rage I had between here and the grocery store 3 miles away. Keeping in mind it was 7am on Saturday morning.

I think this is a result of not having the deal with traffic as it is the first time I have driven anything in two weeks.

    Anyone else experience this?

If the store was only 3 miles away, make more than one trip. I make several in town trips a day just for the excuse to go for a ride.

Time to build a bigger trailer.

That reminds me, I had intended to build a sealed trailer before the weather got too nasty

My car has been parked for almost a year now. But, I've had the opportunity to drive other people's cars on occasion, generally heading off on trips. No problems. Quite relaxed.

I'm not sure I've driven early on a weekend morning for quite some time, but those are always the quietest times to be out on the road.

"Road rage" makes me think of angry people getting out of their cars and punching each other - I don't experience that. But the handful of times per year that I end up driving somebody else's car or truck, the speed and bulk of an automobile make me feel uncomfortable behind a steering wheel and hyper-attentive to my driving and the traffic around me, which is not a bad thing at all.

On the rare occasions that I drive, I don't have the slightest anger at all. I feel a bit guilty and also feel a heavy weight of responsibility, but anger never comes to the fore. On occasion, I do enjoy coming to a complete stop behind the limit line at a stop sign knowing full well that the motorist behind me expected me to run it, which is the norm around here. I don't do it with any anger, just with amusement.

Guess I should clarify. Road Rage to me means the frustration of being in a car around other motorists. The idiot that pulls out in front of you, the lights on timers that turn right when you get there. I think the car light movement has lowered my stress level, because I rarely deal with traffic. Didn't realize how much it was stressing me.

I get the same thing, now. I bike to work, bike for most of my errands, and try to use transit for everything else. On the rare occasions when I drive (except at 1 AM on the way home from work the odd time I use Car2Go), I find the lack of consideration for anyone else that most drivers display highly irritating. It's annoying on a bike, too, but easier to avoid.

Yes, when I drive in congested traffic I sometimes get quite impatient and irritable, as I am used to having almost no impediments when I bike. And in fact, on rare occasions when I find myself cycling in congested bike traffic, I sometimes feel frustrated too.

The few times a year I have a rental (for work trips or visiting family out of town), I find that being in the car is a bit strange. For the first bit of time, I tend to drive like I cycle - assuming that drivers can't see me and are going to run me off the road.

The only rage I really get coincides with nervousness about being confined in a large box in traffic. On my bike, there's always at least one escape route. Being stuck in the middle of a rush hour freeway inside of a box of people is just kind of weird.

I don't find myself getting angry or impatient, but I definitely drive too fast. When I'm on the bike, I simply go as fast as I can. When I get in the car, I seem to forget that I can go a lot faster than prudence (or the law) would allow. This does not translate to really insane speeds, but I definitely drive faster than I should. When I realize this, I slow down; but it often takes me a while to realize what I'm doing.
