Do you wear gloves for around town?

Hello

I used to only wear gloves on twenty plus mile rides, but have since started to use them daily. When I don't wear gloves my hands get calloused on the palm after a few days. My hand are dry more often than not, so I've started caring lotion with my other tools. With a new job comes a new route, and it has a few intersections with the freeway on ramp, and no bike lane. Which has me thinking about getting a set of reflective gloves to help with garbing their attention. The most difficult part is finding a full fingered glove with reflection on the palm.

While some very expense brands offer this. I'd like to get a pair for under thirty. I currently have cycling specific, but am thinking about some hi-vis w/ 3m reflective tape mechanic gloves. Amazon has some, but I want to find a safety store here in Tucson first. I'll also get a reflective belt with shoulder straps to use on longer rides.

This made me realize that while we can put lights on the bike, we don't get many choices for our hands. Especially since we use our hands to signal with. I think that a set of reflective gloves would increase my presence along the side of highways. Not ready to start using the led light gloves I've seen. Since they aren't that bright to begin with. I want something for day time as well as night time use.

just thinking out loud, and like others opinions.

Tim

I don't know if they're reflective but Mechanix has a great selection. Some are in high visibility colors. There are great to wear for cycling. They can be ordered directly from the Mechanix site and the prices are very reasonable.

Safety Fastfit $16.95

I get high viz gloves with reflective material from the hardware store. Wear them most of the time except when doing relaxed rides on the local MUT.

I use high visibility yellow work gloves when it's cold. They're full fingered and padded. They fit snugly and work great. I bought them at a local drugstore (Kinney's). During the summer I use regular bike gloves.

Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.

I do, a couple of weekends ago my front tyre washed out on a patch of ice, I slid on my chest and hands a little. I had my gloves on and had no damage. In the summer I will wear fingerless; but I nearly always ride with gloves on.

Seen the mechanix brand gloves on Amazon. I also saw some other brands with a 3m splash across the front. At least I picked up a new o-ring so I can start using my dinotte rear light again for commuting. Also have the super nova front/rear with alfine dyno. I'm just wanting to have a little more since I'm having to merge with traffic for an on ramp.

These gloves are the ones that have my attention https://www.amazon.com/Magid-PGP90TL-...lective+gloves

I almost always wear gloves when I cycle, and if I want reflection, I prefer it to be located on the back of the glove ... on the visible part of the glove.

I never used to, but recently I have had some pain and numbness especially in my wrists on any ride over a couple miles on any of my bikes. It's very noticeable on longer rides. I wear some cheap Amazon pair with gel on the palms/wrist area. That in conjunction with gel pads and gel cork = much more comfortable for me.

Don't bike much in the winter, but when I do I just use heavy winter gloves. Don't own enough cold weather gear for extended winter riding.

I only wear gloves when riding around town when it's cold enough that I would wear them while walking. On rides of over 50 miles, I almost always wear gloves. I'm not sure any reflective material on the glove would do any good. If I'm riding in low-light/darkness (rather common for me) I put reflective bands on my ankles and usually have either an ANSI class 3 rain coat or a class 2 vest, along with super bright lights. If a motorist doesn't see all that, then s/he's legally blind.

I wear gloves in the winter.
Not in the summer.,

Yesterday, i was having issues with being too warm for the ride, so I took the gloves off for most of the ride.

I've been thinking about these.

I always wear biking gloves, even on short trips, but I don't know for sure f they do any good. In theory, they have a bit of padding and hand support that might lessen soreness or hand fatigue, or even offer a bit of protection against carpal tunnel syndrome, but since I'm usually also gripping the handlebars through padded tape or a rubber handgrip, the gloves might be redundant. Still, for some reason I feel more comfortable using them, although it might just be habit.

EDIT: as Robert C pointed out they might help protect your hands a little bit in a fall. Also, in theory if you ride over broken glass you can also use them to clear your front tire as you go.

Get a good pair of full finger bike gloves, then go to a safety supply store and pic up some reflective tape to add to the back of your gloves.

You might want to check your bike fit and/or riding form--sounds like you're putting weight on your hands.
