Please post my "invention" you refer to. Unless of course you're still claiming a growth in urban centers.... instead of a well documented flight from urban centers. Because then you just want to exchange links... which makes for crappy threads.

I get the impression... you're just being adversarial. I don't think I want to play.

Nope. I'm not constrained by a purpose I'm here to serve. I'm liberated from that and can do what I want.

Lot's of good ideas but not going to happen widespread in our lifetime outside limited implementation in bigger cities. Can't even keep our basic infrastructures up to date including roads and all that comes with it.

It might be half the cost, or less, if several riders going from close to point A, to close to point B, were picked up by the same vehicle, And perhaps a lot more convenient too, if you will have to wait a lot longer for a solo vehicle compared to a shared one.

In my prediction thread I suggested autonomous vehicles of the future will have fully discrete enclosed compartments with separate entrances to address privacy/safety concerns.

I might live with that on the outward leg of an outing. I would prefer a private vehicle for the homeward leg. But in my shopping cart or luggage dolly idea there would have to be enough pods to fill the needs of the consumers. Much like you have to have with zip car or bike share. If there are not enough of either people will not use them and the car becomes the default. I would think.

Personally, I feel I get more freedom and convenience from being carfree than I do chained to cAR ownership.

+1. It's all about how you design your life. A car might be virtually necessary, a convenience, neutral, unnecessary, a burden, etc.

I prefer my current life where a car would be an unnecessary expense. The traveling I do is then more enjoyable, interesting, healthy, adventurous, living-clean, and in keeping with my concern for natural resources and our environment.

Kalanic is a visionary. He is also a historian and saw how the past could have changed the world if only we had let the free market dictate the future of motorized transport. It took 100 years, but technology is now going to do what should have been done a generation ago by removing the need to buy a personal automobile.

I can only hope to see that day.
