Looks like it is a repeat of last year's reportedly successful event. Are they increasing the number of days they do it? Maybe eventually it will be permanent.

As previously discussed, car-free living and car-free places are two overlapping but distinct concepts. However, the more car-free places there are, the more support for car-free living you get.

I believe the number of days for this is increasing. My guess is that it will only be permanent if business owners can be convinced that it is a benefit -- Newbury Street is basically a shopping mecca, they whole street is lined with retail outlets and restaurants.

In Boston, efforts have been made to increase cycling awareness and safety, with a city-share bike rental program up and running, and continuing efforts to add more bike lanes, city-wide. Public transit is always a mess, still, but at least cycling is getting some much needed attention.
