Almost Car Free
How many of you are almost car free? I didn't even start driving until I was in my mid-twenties and only because I had to. I still commute to work about 5 days a week on a bike. Some weeks I ride 6 or 7 days. With kids, it's almost impossible to be car free, especially in my city. Have a good night.

I voted carfree, but I'm not a purist. Sometimes I get a ride to the store, and I drive my dad's car when I visit him every month. But I don't own a car, and day in and day out I use my bike for 95 % of my transport needs.

My parents got rid of their car when I was 11, and never replaced it. They ride their bikes to work (still!), and they got me a bike (an awesome old three-speed) which I rode to school. It works fine in cities. Downside: I didn't get my liscence until I was 23. Now that I have it though, I never use it.

almost never drive my car, as my brother is usually using it. occassionally use a friend's car to get out of town, usually to trails. would drive less if my town was more interesting....

Never owned a car. Hey, I know people who never owned a car AND never biked (hint: live where there is public transportation).

I am caught in a great debate over becoming car free. I have this van that if i sold it off would be a nice chunk of change. But the van is nice for heading up North to the BWCA, and other road trips that while biking are fun, it's getting there and doing, not the getting there.
The van hasn't been on the road in two months. My next camping trip is end of August and I can ride to it, the next is weekend after Labor Day, and it is a three day journey, or a 6 hour dirve. Hmm. Cool thing is I have friends willing to haul some of the stuff I want at the camp site, like my ice chests. You can't "car camp" being car-free, and a two burner stove is so nice out in the woods, and a big coffee pot.
I also enjoy the getting to these events, I want the training for the summer I get on the bike and head to the four corners of the USA.
