Why I Love "Living Car Free"

I like a lot of the forums here, but sometimes thay get me a little crazy. For example, On "Advocacy & Safety" there are currently a million threads about cagers with road rage attacking cyclists and getting away with it, so we should attack them back, etc., etc. I catch some of the violent undertones and strt feeling a little edgy.

Then I pop in here. Not only is there a lot less violence, but the discussions are interesting and thought provoking. I hope threads are long-lived, because sometimes it takes a while to think of good replies.

I am not putting down the other forums. I love them too, and sometimes a little strife and conflict are needed. It's just that this place is starting to seem like a calm and safe haven, where people really do listen to each other.

I assume that if you're reading this, you also like "Living Car Free." What do you like most about this forum?

The sharing of tips and such. I imagine not a few people who try to do without a car backpedal when they see some of the inconveniences involved, and that's where forums like this come in. I would've never thought to move a whole dadgum house full of furniture like that one fellow did. I've been carfree for some time, and I'm used to it, but this particular subforum has expanded my horizons in with a whole lot of cool ideas.

Yeah--that house moving thread was inspiring. After years of being car free, I see that I have a way to go! Another good thing--people who quote Thoreau in their sigs! (And I've said ti before--coolest user name I've seen in a long time, Kris.)

I suspect that's what the Advocacy and Safety forum is for.

seriously, though, it IS quite interesting how different subforums have different crowds, isn't it?
