First time driving for four months

A friend of mine asked me to ferry some supplies out to her, 90 miles north of town. I've been car free since the spring and I was amazed at how horrific the experience of driving seems now. I've logged a quarter million miles in cars, so I'm very experienced. But somehow I had forgotten just how amazingly nasty it is to have to sit in a cramped little cage with a hot noisy engine in the middle of endless stop-and-go traffic. I felt my blood pressure skyrocket and started wanting to scream at people.

I fricking hate cars.

I hate cars too....
I finally got a job in my vocation in this beautiful but severly employmentally
blighted state that was 40 miles, yes 40 miles one way
For the sake of brevity, I had to quit in large part due to the car time. I just
CANNOT do it !
My quest for a totally car free existance has me looking to leave this wonderful
state for a more car free environment by next summer. Damn these bicycles for
doing this to me !!!

Driving is certainly a weird experience. I drove a friend with no license across town in his car. I went the most direct route, on all the smaller side streets. My friend said, "This is he same route you would take on your bike, isn't it? It would be twice as quick to take the expressway." He was absolutely right! I also fought the urge to roll through stop signs and speed up when I saw a loose dog.

My wife and I, along with another woman travelled 30 miles to Greeley yesterday. This was my first time driving in months. I came up to a long line of traffic at the signal, and had to fight the urge to pass them all on the shoulder!

agree

I hear you all.. had to rent a car for some business..then thought mid'as well get some stuff from a not so close town..well, driving around in the country was nice enough but when goto the suburbs..I was like this is not fun at all..I was planning to go to quite a few spots but came home early! Driving actually was depressing, then fillinf up the rental car, with gas was so weired.

a few months ago i drove my roomate's truck after not driving for a few months, and hit the rearview mirror getting out of our narrow driveway. i was kind of pissed off, but it was minor damage so it was kind of funny also. it is so hard to judge when navigating something that large.

i sometimes get genuinely scared when riding in cars with people...they drive too fast, cut people off, turn without signalling, speed through yellow/red lights. i'm not as scared for my own safety as much as the safety of cyclists that one day may fall victim to these reckless drivers.

Last month I drove a car for the first time in 2 years - in suburban Seattle, no less. What a hideous experience. It'll probably keep me from driving a car again for another 2 years!
