Walkit Website
Here's an article about another attempt to use the web to get people to
drive less:

Here's the website:

It strikes me as more of a gimick than effective. I feel born to walk, almost like I've evolved to walk. Kids just grow into it don't they. It seems like it would take technology to convince people not to walk. On the other hand, people's actual behavior contradicts my gut feeling. Also, urban planners seem to design our built environment with the goal of placing barriers to walking wherever they can get away with it. In the more modern sections of DC a new comer might need some help finding the good non-car routes. I just found a new short cut the other day, I had been relying on an experienced cyclists advice for the route but stumbled on a better one. Maybe we COULD use sites like this here.
