car free dating

Do any of you guys have problems finding girls that will accept that you are car free and are not going to change? It seems like our options are very limited since most girls want a guy who can come pick them up in a nice car and be wearing nice clothes. Where are all the chicks who dont mind me pulling up on my bike with some grease on my pant leg?

Also me being a Libertarian I usually have extremely different views than the typical liberal biker chicks. I cant win

It's never been a problem for me, but then again I don't enjoy forcing my opinions on others and arguing about politics with the women I choose to spend time with.

Is this some joke post?

I never thought of putting grease on a pant leg or talking politics at a date. Clean yourself up and show some interest in him/her. If you are going to be car free and use a bike for transportation you gotta learn how to ride it. The grease on the leg brands you as incompetant. Even without a chain guard and coat protector anyone who has successfully completed toilet training can learn to tie loose clothing and not soil themselves with a greasy chain.

lol. You guys are funny. Most liberals are the ones who LOVE forcing their ideas on people, thats why I cant date them you idiot. Liberals are all about government telling you what to do. I don't force my ideas on anyone. So you totally just made something up about me. I have been ridding my bike car free for years and sometimes you get a little dirty, specially in the winter time.

Thanks for not helping at all guys.

You live in one of the most bicycle friendly places in this country, and you can't find someone compatible??? Maybe you shouldn't be blaming the bike.

You don't seem to understand liberalism. I think you've been letting the right-wing's distorted rantings define your views of liberalism. The heart of liberalism is closer to leveling the playing field, keeping the privileged from oppressing the poor and providing a support network because no one can always be independent. We all need each other.

Now, now, you can't make such assumptions about all women. After all, you don't want all women, you just want one. From my experience, women want a man who is successful, pays attention to them and is fun to be with.

When I was young, it was harder to find women in L.A. who could deal with a car-free lifestyle. Many young women seemed to see not having a car as the sign of a loser, one who was not on an upward path of success. Now that I'm over 50, it's no problem. The bicycle just shows to them that I'm in good shape. Older women understand that there are bumps in the road of everyone's life.

The deal I make is that I pay for all the dinners and they pay for the gas. This overcomes the perception that I have no money as I have no car.

You want to pull up on your bike with grease stained pants? Fine, arrive 15 minutes early and carry a change of clothes. Be sure to have applied the deodorant liberally before starting. And in some cases, she may even be okay with you taking a quick shower before the date. Or have her pick you up.

So why can't you find any libertarian chicks? Do you help at libertarian functions? Being a liberal, I always found the Unitarian churches were a good source of like-minded women. Surely there is some similar institution that you can find. Good luck in your search.

Recent statistics show that over 80% of kids 18-25 have rated "riches and fame" as being the "primary objective" or "very important" to their goals in life. "Developing a meaningful philosophy of life" is down about 50% since the 70s. This is why most girls want you to have big cars and flashy clothes, and why you can never explain to them why being carfree is smart and responsibe.

That said, I'd like to suggest you put your politics aside (whether you bring it up or the girl does) and just talk about what you do have in common, which (by default, since you want a cycling girl) is bikes. Start hanging out at a local infoshop or anarchist enclave and you'll probably find a lot of girls who share a lot of your libertarian sentiments, ride bikes, and would never call themselves libertarians or anarchists.

Depending on how firm you are about car-free living, you have some options. If you have no car, you are saving a lot of money, enough so that you could rent a car several times a month and still be ahead financially. You could try not mentioning the car-free lifestyle at all, and just renting a car for the date. You would show up in a nice clean modern automobile, suitable for first impressions. Then, make absolutely no mention of being car-free. (Make it a game, you are under cover.) If no second date appears, car-free-ness is irrelevant. If a second date does come about, show up in a rented car again. If she doesn't notice that it is a different car, proceed as before. Do not mention being car-free until she wonders why you always show up in a different one. Then, when she asks, you again have options. The most obvious is to explain how you don't have a car since you haven't needed one up to this point, and you are saving a huge amount of money.

After that point, you are on your own. Maybe you could say that you are saving money for a trip to Europe, or something appealing like that.

Its a joke post from someone who isn't car free. The poster claims to have been car free for years but can't get a bike with fenders and chain guard or wear protective clothes or hire a cab or rent a car. Its not likely that someone is so feeble minded. Its winter here, and for the next month I'll have to appear in meetings all dressed up in a suit. I'm planning on biking in a suit on those meeting days. I won't become soiled either. Car culture people- its not a problem for us car free, it really isn't. We car free have so many more options in our lives. After I post this I'll walk over to my girlfriends place. If I were car dependent and drove over she'd probably dump me for being stupid.

I think I just figured out why few people want to date you. It has nothing to do with bikes, with grease, or with politics.

After reading this post, I can tell you with certainty: it's not the bike vs. car thing that's giving you trouble with the fair sex. Work on your social skills, young man...

As a libertarian living in Vermont, let me give you a little advice about dealing with liberal women.

First, realize that many of them are just repeating stuff they read or heard. So just because they're saying it doesn't really mean they believe in it completely. Just let stuff slide, and see if you can figure them out. Slowly start pointing things out, but don't do it as an argument. And make sure they know you aren't a Republican! Eventually you'll be able to get them to understand your viewpoints better, since they only make sense, right? ;-) There will be some who are so rabid you can't get them to follow logic, but they probably don't like men anyways.

Yeah, that's a good way to get a woman to like you; patronize her for her beliefs.

Tell her about how you ride a bike because you care about the environment, but that you're in favor of completely doing away with federal environmental regulations so businesses can pollute whenever they want, with absolutely no consequences. Free Markets will "self regulate" just fine on their own. Mention Ayn Rand. She'll think you're really smart.

hmm.. By calling ppl idiots and labelling liberals are those who force their ideas on others, you have just successfully label and forced your own opinions on/of others. Either that or there is something about ur attitude that spells hypocrisy.

You will recognise such girls as they will be so covered up in ink that you will suspect a coked-up Bob Ross was the reconstructive surgeon hired to fix the hideous scarring from her unfortunate chemical fire incident. Her hair will be a color. This color will suggest in your mind the image of someone ringing out used ink-jet cartridges into her scalp...violently. She'll think you're cute because one of her eyelids will be swollen shut under the jangling cacophony of forty-seven piercings. She may seem to talk to herself occasionally; this is not psychosis, but rather the effect of the opposing ear's 72 piercings receiving signals from ham radio operators in Ursa Major. Your perfect anarcho-libertarian car-free cutie-pie will express the same indifference regarding your body odor as she does her own.

Congratulations, Mister Original Poster! Your dream date awaits, and lo! you haven't made even one small concession to competing ideas about politics or lifestyle. Indeed, such a girl is perfect for a man who sticks to his guns, unwilling to compromise any aspect of his chosen path, no matter the consequence he bears in the minds of others who believe him to be a bombastic, self-important pr***. How little they must understand you. Why, you're a political visionary! A two-wheeled truth-teller of the first rank -- right up there with Franklin Roosevelt (except your two wheels are arranged differently). You suffer for the truth of your cause, and will surely find a like-minded woman of equally heroic proportions. And By Golly you DESERVE her. Enjoy your date! We look forward to hearing about it.
