It happened again..

Today we got a little snow. 1-2 inches. The public transit and bike people came in to work on time. Its noon and the two people with the big SUVs (and no school kids) still haven't showed up. I noticed the same effect at my previous workplace.

My co-worker, who lives less than six blocks from work, called in today...her garage door is frozen shut.

I work in a hospital, so people make it in unless it's one of those "perfect blizzards," which we haven't had in several years. But I am so glad that I don't "have" to drive on these snowy and icy days. Riding or walking is a pleasant adventure for me, but a death-defying trek for the car people. When I'm pedaling past them in the parking lot, and they're scraping snow in their dressy little jackets, I call out in my cheeriest voice, "I sure am glad I don't have to drive on a day like this!"

At the last place I worked at in California, my boss was dubious about cycle commuters. That was till the day when of the 4 animators; the two cyclists who both lived over 10 miles away made it in, but the two drivers who both live less than a mile away couldn't make it. Then the boss realized that cyclists were as dependable or more than drivers.

We have a trip reduction program in Maricopa and the weather is great.

My new Boss found it a good way to budget myself since he couldn't give me 40 hours.
