Cargo trikes in the news...
http://multimedia.heraldinteractive....ic01132008.jpg With his business, The New Amsterdam Project, which uses people-powered “TriCycle Trucks,” instead of gas-guzzling cars and trucks, to move merchandise around the city, Brown is trying to curb city driving and improve people’s health. So far, it appears to be working. In just a few short months, Brown’s Cambridge-based company has built a steady stable of clients, and locals are starting to get familiar with the cargo-carrying trikes. The shiny red motorized TriCycle Trucks are best known in Somerville, where most weekday mornings, a driver pedals up to Petsi Pies, the bakery on Beacon Street, and loads boxes of freshly-baked scones into a shiny red cargo space attached to the back of the bike. |
Awesome!

From the article, "Because the bikes can carry up to 600 pounds in the cargo space, they come equipped with a battery, to give the driver an extra boost, for getting up hills and accelerating after a red light."
Excellent idea. This is only going to become more common with the improvements in batteries and motors coming in now. http://www.bostonherald.com/business...icleid=1066184 |
