Day Without Cars

Heres a thing about a mandatory car-free day.

The legacy of Enrique Penalosa, former mayour of Bogota, lives on. He's probably the greatest hero of the carfree movement.

And if I hear of anybody on this forum driving on Carfree Day, I swear I'll get out my whoopass stick!

I think if I have to drive on that day, I will make up for the 363 days I didn't drive

Cool concept in theory, but it seems the city isn't really prepared to handle the drivers who aren't in their cars.

I agree about Peñalosa. He did some great things as mayor of Bogotá. Too bad he wasn't re-elected. Have you seen these videos? One is about the innovative Transmilenio "bus rapid transit" system and how commuters are encouraged to cycle to it, and the other is about the Ciclovía bike paths that Peñalosa had built.

Here's another video about Bogotá, this one aired on PBS and was narrated by Brad Pitt.

I don't think that's possible.
