Thanks for the link. Interesting comment in one of his articles about New Pedestrianism being upscale and not occurring in lower income areas. I noticed this other day in a slummish area, hardly anybody owns a car, they depend on bus service. The last large chain grocery store closed up years ago, now all they have are the stop and rob corner stores.

We had an attempt to build a pedestrian/car light area in a town up the road from me, but it failed because they couldn't get any big name restaurants and retailers to sign on because the population base wasn't large enough. People didn't want a mom and pop restaurant they wanted Applebee's and Outback. I co-own a small retail business in a town of about 10k, 98% of our business comes from people outside the area. I seldom see anyone that lives in town frequent our store. I make it a point to shop as local as I can, whether it be hardware, office supplies, bike parts or groceries.

I learned a long time ago when I work in an area to search out the mom and pop restaurants. The food is usually much better and quite often their won't be the wait like there is at the big chain places. Prices are usually competitive or better.
