EVERY driver should watch this video (and cyclists too I suppose):

Great video. I think every network should broadcast it as a PSA.

I would bet that if the bear was wearing a high-visibility yellow jacket, you would have noticed the first time.
Although I have had a driver say to me (while pulling out of their driveway and nearly pulverizing me...), "I should have seen you with that jacket...sorry!"

You might have noticed the bear with a yellow jacket but that's because they're not moving at 20-35 mph. On the road, people are moving pretty fast and also turning onto diff. streets -- i.e. switching the point of focus -- and you're in their periphery not directly in front of their eyes like the bear was, so it's actually a good example.

I think this is pretty stupid. The reason you don't see the bear is exactly the reason you would see a cyclist. The bear blends in, he is dark and moves at the same speed as the other dressed in black. A bicycle on a high-street is very clearly visible, because its shape, colour and movement pattern are completely different from the cars'.

Also, it is well-known that it is much easier to spot moving things in your perifery than in your centre of vision.
