Medical Inebriation

How do you dill with this type of situation, where you have to get around to Dr appointments, but the meds have you very bombed? I am going on to three weeks with the same tooth in an inflamed state of being. It was caused through a crack, and that is from grinding my teeth. With the meds i have been on I can barely walk, but always find the need to get something from the store, craving diet seven up right now.
I have a few stores, but they just carry junk food.

How do you deal with a situation like this?

Isn't Diet Seven Up junk food?

Be careful riding around while doped up.

I am sure diet 7 up is junk food, but at lease it does not have the same crap as diet coke, its different. i think I just mostly want the bubbles, mom made me drink it as a kid.
I do really like riding or driving all doped up, especially since it is the same here in Portland.

We always talk on this forum about having a "Plan B" in place for unexpected situations. I guess you didn't do this.

I think the answer is the same whether you drive a car or ride a bike. Right now you probably shouldn't do either. So what to do now?

Personally, I would ask a friend to drive me to a good store, where I would stock up on enough food and supplies to last a while. Then I would stay home as much as possible and recuperate. If I absolutely had to go somewhere, I would walk, use transit, or call a cab.

Good advice. The only thing I might add is the timmythology might want to consider sparkling water instead of diet 7 up. The grocery store brand is only 79 cents for a two liter, it's got the bubbles without all the diet chemicals.

When I broke my shoulder I used taxis to go to and from the hospital on several occasions. Otherwise I walked or took the bus or train.

Maybe you have a friend who could deliver a good-sized supply of food and beverages? Then you wouldn't have to go out. Or you could see if there is a personal shopping service or grocery delivery. People who are disabled often make use of services like that.

Damn tooth feels much better, now for the root canal.

My plan B just took a different job that allowed her to transition to max, so no car for her.

Well at least it gave me the the time to take the e-wheel from my surly and prepare it for summer riding.

I take some medications that prevent me from operating things with wheels but when I take these I am probably not in any shape to be driving or cycling and either change my plans, have my wife drive, or forgo the medications and see how much pain I can take.

Two years ago I spent 6 weeks recovering from multiple rib fractures. It hurt so much I had to sleep sitting up on my couch. But I was always able to get a bus. If for some reason the bus wouldn't work, I would splurge on a taxi. No way I would drive a car or ride a bike in that period.

While I was carfree ...

I burned my left foot to the bone. When the screaming subsided, I took a cab to the hospital to have it treated, and back home again. The next two days I took the bus to the walk-in clinic to have my dressing changed, but that was too much ... too difficult ... too painful. On my second visit to the walk-in clinic, a nurse quietly handed me a card with info about home care nurses. From that point on, home care nurses came to my home to change my dressings.

During the next 5 weeks, I also discovered that there are lots of grocery delivery services available. I used one service ... I could email her my selection and request that she find things from up to 2 different grocery stores. And she charged me 15%. So if my grocery bill was $100 ... she charged me $15. And she brought everything right into my kitchen. That was really helpful given that I couldn't walk.

I also had a tooth go so bad, I ended up in emergency with the worst headache of my life. When they discovered it was a tooth, and not a tumor or something, I got to my dentist with a cab ... I also got home with a cab. For the subsequent visits I was able to use the bus because it was a direct route and I didn't have to worry about changes.

And not long after becoming carfree, I bought a small freezer. So about once every few months, I would stock up ... take a bus to a grocery store, take a cab home.

Mix in an ounce of cherry extract, and it's a tasty sparkly drink that's healthy too!

So I have not taken any meds since Tuesday night and am just starting to get my balance back.
At least I am able to get back to riding with my dogs.

It does help to get others opinions and insights into this. It also enlightens me to know how good I have it with a bus 2 blocks away, train 5 blocks away two mups with in 1/4 mile of my house. I also have a kroger and trader joes with in two miles. So bare necessities are pretty close.

Best news of the week of course is that I am back to commuting by bike.
