Speak for yourself. Some of us have NO INTEREST in kids. No need to force your ideals on the rest of the world. We get enough of that from the religious types.

Reading comprehension doesn't seem to be your strong suit. Read it again and tell me where I tried to force my ideals on anyone.

Seriously? Read your own words and get back to us. Not everyone wants to raise a family. I hope your kids are aware that they have options.

Also, don't even TRY to define "normal".

There are other ways of contributing to the continued progress of civilization than by spawning, but indeed someone who has no interest in and makes no effort towards any of them is a drone in the hive. And you know what happens to them.

Hello??? People have been raising kids since the dawn of time! I would qualify that as normal, wouldn't you? Had you actually, read my comments, I clearly implied that kids were an option, not a requirement. Regardless, that wasn't the point I was making anyway....but you conveniently left that part out. Not surprising.

Where do these anti-kid people come from?? They see the word "child", "kid" or some other variation and automatically jump to the conlcusion that people want them to breed. I say, don't flatter yourself.

Don't worry about these egotistical "anti-kid people", this is one instance where references to Darwinian principles may be appropriate.

It doesn't take a genius to breed.

I'm surprised no one here has yet relabeled living sans kids as being "child free." :O)

True, but the the smug, provincial, me first, no empathy, self-righteous "geniuses" won't be altering the level of the gene pool, will they?

The ugly, overweight, I-can't-afford-kids-but-I'll-have-8-of-them-anyway, irresponsible, overbreeding mouthbreathers have that under control.

So much for Darwinian theory.

Sounds like a stereotype of the car free gentry who populate welfare projects in the U.S. Did you have a different group in mind for your over-the-top generalization; or perhaps a BF spokesman for that slice of the population?

So if you consider them overweight or ugly, they shouldn't breed? Oh yeah. you're going to be popular.

Perhaps a better (but long winded) label for a slice of the regular proselytizers on this list is:
Provincial, with little or no evident empathy for/understanding of the issues and concerns of people with children and dependents; actually, no concern for the issues of anyone that doesn't fit their own narrow cultural profile.

.
Actually, I think most of the so-called "anti-kid people" are coming from a totally different viewpoint than you imagine.

Many of them believe that overpopulation is a serious problem that is only growing worse. They think that the planet cannot sustain substantially larger populations because of limited resources and/or a lack of system capacity to process human waste products such as pollutants and carbon dioxide. They foresee disastrous "corrections" to overpopulation such as wars, disease and mass starvation. Some "anti-kid" people think that we should voluntarily curtail reproduction in order to avert these cpatastrophes. Others believe that literally nothing can be done, and humanity is doomed to massive failure.

BTW--I'm only trying to explain their arguments. I'm not claiming to agree with them. So if you have a beef with this overpopulation theory, take it to them, not me. Thanks!

You certainly have a fertile imagination when it comes to making negative assumptions about the people who post here.

I suggest you read the preceding post from Roody for the converse; assigning noble motives to spaced out self righteous moralistic airheads and counter culture dropouts.

Someone suggested "I-Like-To-Gripe" as a more fitting monicker. I agree.

Well that sure makes mincemeat of my observation about the moral/intellectual basis of the numerous juvenile counter culture posts, doesn't it?

If you attacked arguments instead of people, you would have more satisfying discussions on the internet.

I think life is a huge experiment and assign noble dreamer status to anyone who chooses to attempt living outside the status quo. I think abandoning most of your possessions to head out on the road and see the world at a slow pace for very little expenditure is great, as long as you are doing it for those kind of reasons and not because you are afraid of the world or the status quo. Fearing anything is a bad thing to do, even if you think it is wrong.

So if you are exploring your soul while exploring the soil, congrats.

Are you posting after reading this thread in a mirror? I would think so because you seem to be confused about who is posting what. Your response seems to be misdirected, but never mind, reality never should get in the way of your dream, eh?
