Pepsi Grant idea, help support bike commuting

Not my idea but they are try to win a grant from pepsi to do what looks like create a big web database of cycling routes and to help organize bike commuters. If your interested you should vote for the idea to help it out.

Generally, databases are easier to use if there is exactly one place to look for the information, instead of several.

I use bikely.com and I would recommend it to others as well.

I have nothing to say against organizing bike commuters though.

I just figure since Pepsi is putting this on they will probably do something to show the winners of the competition which means more bikes on TV which is always good. I think their idea is so so but it is more attention to cyclist in a market typically unreachable by most cycling companies budget.

One thing that gave me pause as well was that you could see the rankings, but you couldn't see how many votes each one got. 61st place is way out of contention if I can guess that typical bell curves apply here. If they were serious contenders that would be much more motivating.

Very cool. I wish there were more bike paths around here. A while back, I saw an article about how to ride to Wal-Mart while staying on backroads as much as possible.
