"Dutch Quest For Practical Bicycles" 5+ Min. Video
The Dutch are ones not to take a quick "no" for an answer. They are real go-getters in finding the right bike for the job at hand. And so the hard working specialize "work bikes" are used for jobs that a regular bike can't really do as well as you can see for yourselves on Reuters Youtube.

But have you seen how much a normal bike can do?

And see to ses the disadvantages of having a big bike if you live near a canal, just move to the next newer post on the same site.

I'm driving a small pickup to carry tools for gardening. I'm starting to wonder about riding a Ute or a Big Dummy to client's properties.
Checkout Lightfoot Cycles for recumbent peditrucks and the like.

That was a really bad report (productions wise, camera, unrehearsed scripts, redundant information, etc)...I'm kinda surprised it is carries the Reuters name.

There is a dealer of Dutch bikes here in Seattle, and I have to say that I'm not a fan. They're prohibitively expensive (thank you, Euro), and they're not appropriate for our local topography. A big, heavy, clunky bike with limited gearing probably works great for Holland, which is very flat, but if you're trying to negotiate big hills, which are everywhere here, Dutch bikes work much less well. I think a better model for hauling big, heavy stuff in this environment is the Extracycle. I'm seriously considering selling my neglected car and using the proceeds to buy a Big Dummy and Extracycle set to haul big stuff. As much as I admire Bakfiets, I wouldn't even consider one for my own actual use where I live.
