Maybe.
The lifestyle I'm planning might not include a bicycle. I want to either build a Tumbleweed house or live in a small RV of some type. I'll be taking the house with me everywhere I go. That means when I go to the grocery store or laundromat I'll have everything with me and thus won't need to own a bicycle. A bicycle of any type would take up plenty of space. There is no way I would leave one attached to the outside at night where it would give a thief an idea.
My work will be done via the internet so I won't be reporting to a regular location every day.

You'll probably want a good industrial hand truck then. Get one with inflatable tires.

Bikes are too much trouble? Compared to what other mode of transportation? Except for walking, bicycling is the easiest and most hassle-free form of transportation ever devised. Cars are horrible. Public transportation isn't that much better. Bikes are fairly convenient by comparison.

My son lives car and bike free in Boston.
But is planning on getting a bike to use around the neighborhood. Currently he walks or uses mass transit depending on where he is going. But Boston seems to have better mass transit than a lot of places.

Yes! In fact, I've commited to only traveling in a litter, such as this one:
...being that walking is such an annoyance- after all it's twice as demanding as bicycling.
Thankfully, I'm fairly well-off, and have managed to procure two minimum wage workers (alas, overt slavery is still illegal) who will take care of my ambulatory needs.
I'm also looking for a way to quit my job and refrain from contributing, in any way, to society or my continued existence-- because frankly, I find such efforts to be a pain in the ass.
I think a lot of us could take a page out of the wise old remora's book, and just leech off of others. Keep it simple!

I want to opt-out of society, but still ride a bike. Unfortunately, I'd starve.
