Happy Fourth! (but it's like a war zone out there)

I get out of work at midnight, and riding home last night was like a John Wayne movie with the fireworks bursting all around me. It was very humid and calm. so the smell of gunpowd3er just lingered everywhere--enough to make my eyes sting a little. Sometimes I worry that somebody will throw a lit firesork at me as I ride by, but so far that has never happened.

Anyhoo, Happy Independence Day! Along with our other freedoms, celebrate our right to ride a bike and our independence (at least partial) from automoobiles.

Thank you Roody. I wish everybody the same best wishes as we remember the independence that was gained from the king of England, France, and Spain. Each of them claimed a part of the US territory at one time or another. I could also add Mexico but I just don't think about that one. It was more like Americans just annexed part of it.

I wish the Declaration of Independence were a document with legal authority. It would help us to assert our cycling and walking rights. I suppose the Supreme Court couldn't codify the pursuit of happiness part.

The geniuses who live in the apartment below us were shooting fireworks off their balcony. That put an end to us using our balcony to watch the neighborhood show. When we moved in, I thought it was a little ridiculous that there was a need to state explicitly in the lease that lighting fireworks on the balconies is strictly prohibited. It seemed fairly obvious to me. Apparently I gave my neighbors too much credit . . .

About 10 years back, when I lived in Floriduhh, a couple of yahoos decided to shoot bottle rockets at cyclists.
I don't remember if they ever caught the POSs

While visiting relatives in Oregon, seems that illegal firework enforcement is somewhat lax, with hundreds and hundreds of mortar style fireworks going off locally from twilight to well past midnight.

The next morning, I spent close to an hour helping my relatives clean up their yard from all the airborne debris from the night before.
