Also that people start threads on LCF without much regard to the topic of living car free; unless ranting about people who do not live car free and the alleged costs associated with motor vehicle operation, as well as speculating about numerous other economic, political and social topics is considered an essential component of living car free.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was reading about Bhutan before I saw this thread. A nation that measures gross national happiness instead of product sounded like it could be a nice place to live, until I scrolled down and saw the part about deporting a fifth of their own population, making them stateless refugees, and demanding conformity in religion, dress, and language. I credit hnsq for instinctively rejecting the whole concept immediately.

I don't have kids, but nothing makes me happier than making my dog happy. It's free, aside from a bag of kibble once a month.

An Economy Based ON Happiness... Ha, Ha, That's funny... Isn't the whole N American/the whole world's economy based on happiness...? The capitalism way? Then there's the religious way... Then there's the Totalitarian way... The commune way... The independent explorer way... The nose to the grindstone way...
