Inspirational websites and a book recommendation

Hi, car-free and car-light people. If you guys are looking for vindication and inspiration for the sacrifices that you make in your daily lives without a car, or extra cars, here are a couple of websites.

I also thought you guys would like to know about new book that came out last year, "Fevered: Why a Hotter Planet Will Hurt Our Health -- And How We Can Save Ourselves". It sounds very enlightening and important; I plan on reading it.

Congratulations, for being the minority who are helping the planet and others; I commend you.

Thanks anon06! Here are three websites that inspire me. The first two have FB pages.

Carfree Cities

Undriving and Undriver Licensing: Engaging People to Reduce Car Use

Ken Kifer's Bike Pages -- bicycle travelogues, bike safety, bicycling advocacy, and cycling humor.

Btw, has anybody noticed that www links now show as a descriptive title instead of a URL? What's up with that? I think it's a pretty recent development--maybe within the last few weeks?

I haven't noticed a difference. It's always been that you could put any text with whatever link you want. And it shows the link info when you roll over the link text.

Is there something I'm missing?

I think it may be doing it automatically now. I know that a site that I moderate on uses the same software as BF and it is one of the option. BF uses a bit more custom version of the software compared to the other site.

When there are links, I no longer see the bare URL in blue letters. I see a description of the site instead. Example:

Ken Kifer's Bike Pages -- bicycle travelogues, bike safety, bicycling advocacy, and cycling humor.

instead of:

I still don't see the change. You've always been able to type in some text, select it and then click on the link icon and paste in the URL you previously copied from another tab.

That's the change. Now, you can just put in the url without highlighting your own description, and instead of it coming up as the actually URL, it automatically replaces the URL with the linked page's title....

Meaning, before, if you put in a link without your own description, it'd be just the URL, like this: h.t.tp://sheldonbrown..com/gears , but in blue. Now, if you link that same URL, it shows up as Sheldon Brown's Bicycle Gear Calculator instead. I can still do it your way if I want a convenient link that flows with my sentence as I put the url under the words that reference in the sentence, as in "check out this convenient tool you can use when deciding on your next cassette..."

LEast, I think it works that way....

edit--- crap. You don't even need to clink the link button anymore. actually, that ain't cap... that's pretty cool. I added soe typos to the first "link" to break it up and demonstrate what unlabeled links to urls used to look like...

It's all automagic captioning now, instead of a bare naked URL. See the links on post #2? I didn't type them in like that. I just copied the urls from my browser and pasted them into the message as I was typing. BF's software automatically transformed them into neat captions.
