I really love being car free but I never actually really had a car anyway so I've always been car free.. There is nothing that you can't do on a bike that you can do with her car always you have to do is properly plan ahead and with the what right equipment everything is possible!
With a simple hall behind trailer freedom is at hand! Return to easier times!
I have hall behind trailer and with that I can go shopping and bring back returnable cans and bring laundry to the laundromat.
Freedom from the sale and use of petroleum-based fossil fuels.
I ride my bike to work every day.
For a working-class young man like myself it really cuts down on my costs ratios.
Efficiency and low costs is a bicycle is and that's what is important.
What is an important is to keep your cost ratio down

Yes... we don't talk much about this lately... probably because of the abundance of shale oil... but reducing petroleum consumption is a great reason to ride a bike.

Here Here! I'm car free and commute by cycle 40 miles RT. I have a cargo trailer that I go grocery shopping with. I haul my paper/glass/plastic recycling to a center at the farmer's market where I shop and then come home with more groceries. I occasionally haul a case of wine and other goodies from Trader Joes in my trailer. Or bring home some 2X4s from the home depot.

Things like this make me feel like I'm living clean. I'm never stuck in traffic jams. I rarely find that I would really need a car for anything. Of course part of managing that is to avoid embracing things that would require a car. But it's all very manageable.

When I was cleaning up my bikes on the driveway a couple of weeks ago, a few neighbours came up to me and said I was smart not having a car. Then they each climbed into their cars and drove off. I figure the cycling I do helps burn off those extra calories I get from ice cream.

NOS=Nitrous Oxide... I love the stuff, great for getting bombed at the dentist's office and it makes my whipped cream in the can work better. In cars it is used as an oxygen booster for the fuel, we used to call it the poor man's supercharger.

I'm pretty car light but I can't even imagine how to finish the deal. My main problem is music. I like to play in gigging bands. I can imagine transporting a guitar and guitar amp by bike. But my bass rig is about the same size as a fridge, weighs a couple hundred pounds, and is top heavy. If house PA isn't available and I have to haul a PA too, that barely fits in my SUV. Some gear is pretty sensitive too. I don't think a nice tube amp would appreciate being smacked over pot holes. They break pretty easily.

Why do people assume that a bike rides rougher than a car? That might be true, but I have never seen any proof.

I'm not bicycle dependant like the OP but more public transit dependant. However, the bicycle gives me the freedom to travel where the buses do not go or where it takes hours to arrive by public transit. Then there's the freedom I get by using both train and bicycle for long distance travel.

Well, many of us here schlepp food home with our bikes. I personally have never lost a since egg on my ride home.I have to admit my bananas are frequently bruised... although that may have more to do with frosty temperatures.
