Do you ride errands when you are bone tired?
I try to organize my errands so I do a little each day, not too much in the way of recreational rides, so I get everything I need without needing a drive from anyone.
This week I'm trying to get my fancy clothes together for a wedding on the weekend. Yesterday I discovered my fancy white shirt had a stain that dry cleaning and bleach wouldn't salvage so I had to head off to a department store in a nearby suburb. I was already so tired after working all day and then of course the commute and the trip to the cleaners after dinner. I didn't want to go, but had to... Got the shirt and got home... but I was zapped. I also have a story about getting my suit dry-cleaned, then having to bring it home in a pannier  But let's save that for another thread. You have any stories of doing errands by bike while you are tired? |
That's what buses are for. :)

With my schedule, I'm always bone tired. So yes.

I won't do my commute when I'm that tired. 10 miles running hills on Tuesdays has pretty much ruled out riding to work on Wednesdays for much of this summer, for that reason. But I guess if I needed something from the little store in town I would ride down (easy, 1.5 miles down almost all the way) and, sigh, back up. Usually I just walk downtown for stuff.

Geez... a lot of tired car-free people around here. Did you ever do anything epic while tired?

Why, yes, I do run errands on my bike while I'm bone tired. It's not like there's much of a choice. OK, there is a choice. Like Machka says, you can take a bus. In my case, I can either take a bus, use a car-sharing service, or, in extreme distress, use Uber or call a cab. In almost all instances though, if I have to run an errand and I'm really, really tired, I just suck it up and ride my bike. I have a very nice bike, and I really like riding it, even when I'm exhausted. I can't think of a single instance in which I've regretted riding my bike. On the other hand, I can think of many instances when I wussed out, and regretted it later.

When I lived 25 miles from work or 15 miles from town I wouldn't chance riding my bike if I was tired-I would've called a friend for a ride or at one time I could've hitched a ride with my girlfriend.
Now that I'm only 5 miles from town, and I have to be there every single morning by 5am and am often up until 2am, you bet there are days I ride in half asleep. Funny thing is, I'd rather ride my bike tired than get behind the wheel tired. I've seen a fair amount of auto accidents related to tired drivers, probably more than the amount of accidents caused by drunk drivers. |
