Take another look.
My bike is leaning on the drive up ATM machine, the two lanes next to it are teller served by pneumatic tube, drive up lane by building obviously doesn't need pneumatic tube service.
During banking hours I could lean my bike right by the entrance and step inside for teller service; seldom need to though since my various checks are direct deposit, as well as my automatic monthly utility and credit card payments.
I really am surprised by the repeated examples of pride at being smug as well as provincial.

<edit> I understand they filmed "That 70s Show" in Iowa to save on set decoration. Probably just a rumor.

I haven't used a drive through teller, but it's not like I can't see they exist. I can't even generally use drive through ATM machines. My pickup is too tall to reach down to the machine, and my car is too low to reach up to it.

But, I'll bet that your bike is just the right height. Goldilocks would be proud of you.

I raised that question many posts ago (see post 48). Why would a "carfree" person want to encourage the use of drive-thrus?
We take your word for it that they exist in certain parts of the US. We just think it is hillarious (and a little surprising) that they still exist when other countries, and parts of the US, either never had them or moved on from them to modern technology decades ago.

Why wouldn't they? There's no code of ethics for the carfree. Myself I make up my own rules. I occasionally use drive-thrus but won't buy coffee if it's in a throwaway cup.

Of course it is only your artificial and wacky construct that anybody is encouraging anything or anybody else by their use of a drive-thru banking service.

Yeah, but when you DO catch them, they blame it on last years equipment. Or not enough air in their pneumatic tubes.

I was livid. The teller explained to me the new policy that the drive thru was only for "vehicles". When I pointed to my bicycle, she explained, "There's a bike rack in front of the door, so you can park there."
After expressing my consternation and explaining that I'd been using the drive thru on my bicycle for many years, I spotted a drive thru ATM. Since it doesn't have a teller, I rode up to it and completed my transaction.
I was kind of stunned by the whole thing. After all, the bank is situated in a popular bike corridor and my city is generally very bike friendly.
How would you respond?

Depending on the ride, I get ripe enough that it's in everyone's benefit to keep me on the outside of the glass. Think of the drive through as an air out lane.

That's where online banking (banking in the comfort of your own home) ... and ATMs (machines that don't care how you smell) ... come into play.

But I think most people are pretty connected these days.

This morning my son drove me to the drive-thru. I had him pull up ahead of the pneumatic tube. I got out of the passenger seat, walked back to the tube, and did my banking. The teller had no problem with it. My only problem was that when my son activated the car's rear window washer, it squirted me in the head. The other customers in their cars got a kick out of that.

I bank with my phone all the time - which, by definition, proves you don't need to be hip

You only earn your "hip" credentials if by using your phone you get the impression that it somehow makes you more modern or intelligent than those who do not; hip merit badge can also be met by repeatedly boasting about your "smarts" on this subject.

We, as cyclists, are already hip - no matter how we "bank".
Lock up and walk in the bank? Hip. Use a smartphone to bank? Hip. Ride through the drive-thru? Hip. Write checks and mail them in? Yep, still hip. It's the bike, man, the bike.

Of course isn't using bank services at all less simple than using a sock drawer or mattress for all deposits and withdrawals of cash?
