PBP - so who pre-registered?

and what time are you starting?
Assuming I got, I'm starting at 5am on the 17th in the 85 hour group. Decided to take a chance that more normal hours will result in a faster ride for me.

I saw today that 2100 out of the 6500 limit have pre-registered, so it looks like anyone that qualifies and wants to go will be allowed to ride

Unterhausen, please don't do the 5 am start in 85 hours.....you only get 84H.......I know it is a typo....your challenge will be competing for sleeping resources at Loudeac and getting back on the road to meet the Carhaix control closing time. It might work out that you get to Loudeac at say 3 am when many 90H riders are leaving and sleeping spots might be open and the chaos might be clearing.

I am pre-registered for a 4:15 PM start. Starting to think I need a more definative sleep plan other than having a couple hotels booked at odd locations on the route. My challenge will be the required riding distance from the start until "sleeping time" on Monday night.

funny typo. One reason I figure I can ride it in 84 hours is that I have ridden a 1200 in 85, and I wasted quite a bit of time on the last day because I was riding with people that weren't in any hurry.

I'm really kicking myself for slacking off last year -- didn't get a single brevet in, and having 1/3 of the spots taken worries me.

Sure, and I'm not arguing with the pre-registration system at all. Do you think there will still be plenty of spots (for Americans) when May 31st rolls around?

since RUSA did so well at gaming the system last time around, they decided not to go with country quotas this time. Last time RUSA gave back a batch of slots and still didn't use all of the ones they had.

Actually, I think they realized that the pre-registration advantage in addition to the country quotas was too limiting.

Since 2011 there are no more " per country" quotas. You should be able to register on the 31st (mid-to-late afternoon on the 30th in North America) but be ready to just take any start time slots available. I'm afraid the start times between 5:30 and 7:00 PM (90-hour start) will be pretty much gone by then. I'm in the same boat.

Calculate the time zones properly and SNIPE a spot.....YES, I think you will get in if you time it. If you wait, no way.

My comment about the people that rode brevets last year being more likely to register is directed at the notion that 1/3 the slots are gone. I am pretty sure we are on the tail end of the distribution of riders that are going to register. Then again, it could be a long tail

The last 2 PBPs have had 5000 riders and there are 6000 places available. PBP won't sell out but there will be limited start options for later entrants. Such is life.

Ah, now I'm starting to get it. Thanks. I tend let worry get the best of me sometimes.

So do the 90 hour starts get filled up first? I hoping to be able to snipe a spot when it goes full-open since I didn't do any brevets last year.

The 90-hour time limit is the most popular. Just to give you an idea... At the 2011 PBP, 3,104 people signed up for the 90-hour starts, 722 people signed up for the 84-hour starts and 1,176 signed up for the 80-hour starts.

there are vastly more 90 hour starts than any other kind of start. Most people want to ride the 90 hour start, so earlier slots probably will fill up before you get there

When I signed up on May 3, this is what the 80 hr start looked like:

The first wave was already full, but there were still 678 spots remaining in other waves.

My guess is that they'll add times to the 90 hour start if needed. I can't imagine they would force someone to do the 80 or 84 hour start when they really want the 90.

However it seems possible that some who are interested in the 80 or 84 hour starts may end up in the 90 hour group if they didn't ride any brevets last year.

I had been watching my group's page for the validation numbers, instead of RUSA's, so I only now plugged my last one in to the PBP site. One of my riding buddies got his frame number.
