I don't know the record (if there is such a thing) for touring across the US but a 16yr old finished RAAM a few years back.

I don't know the record either, but nancysv (here on BF), her husband, and two young kids went on a 9300 mile tour a few years ago. They're now on a 20000 mile tour from northern Alaska to the southern tip of Argentina.

just because someone else did it before you doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, though. That the feat itself may not be novel to the world doesn't change the fact that the journey will be new to you.

When I rode across the US this summer, one of the people riding in our group also was only 16 years old and this was his second transcontinental. He rode across last year too when he was 15.

Joe Kurmaskie wrote a book about how he rode across the US with his seven year old son on a tag-along and his five year old in a trailer.

I met Ken in Marfa Texas. He had just rode in from Fort Van Horn, 75 miles into a head wind.
He appeared to be about 65 y/o. Looks young for his age.

Starr Moss, then age 8, of Milwaukee, WI, pedaled a 24" bike from Central Park, NYC to Bandon, Oregon, and then down to San Francisco -- 4500+ miles in 1995. He was accompanied by his 13 yo brother, hauled his own gear and camped most of the way. The two brothers were accompanied by various adults along the way.
