Murrysville to The Point in Pittsburgh: best route for staying alive

Any suggestion on the best route between Murrysville, PA and "The Point" in Pittsburgh.

I am staying in Murrysville with non-cycling relatives before heading out on the GAP to C&O. Do any of yuns Pittsburgh randonneurs have suggestions regarding a good route to the downtown area?

Thanks for your help!

If you don't get good tips there, all I can offer is this:

Cresson To Homestead - return trip - Cambria County, PA

From Homestead you'd ride to the Point by way of the GAP, crossing the Mon river at the Hot Metal Bridge.

I have ridden this, and the route is survivable with the exception of immediately out of 'downtown' Murraysville. The climb up Trafford road is a bit of a death trap. Although looking on google maps it seems you could take a slightly long way up the hill on Lyon Run that is off to the west of Trafford.

Time of day and day of week accounts for a lot. Anything is quiet at 6am on a Sunday.

Be aware that the paths along the rivers near the point are cobble the last time I remember being on them (years ago in college.) They may have changed that when they re-did the point.
