Last weekend I saw a guy riding his bike in Lake Tahoe, at Lakeview Commons. The lake is lowering; this is somewhat unusual. Snow melt and springs usually top it up above its drainage level year-round. But drought, yada yada. It made me idly wonder how much of the lake you could traverse this way. So I went Googling for info. Of course you can ride around the lake and people do, but I found a thread on MTBR about mountain biking around the Tahoe Rim... the mountains above the lake. The rider did over 175 miles in less than 4 days with God only knows how much climbing. He more-or-less followed the path of a running event called the Tahoe 200 with some modifications to keep it bike legal and stay off roads as much as he could. He put together a primer https://www.facebook.com/ridethetahoerim
Are there endurance MTB events, more or less like this but organized? Does anyone here take part?
