First Century!!!
I just finished my first century at the Bonfante Ride in Gilroy. It wasn't as hard as I thought too, because for a portion of the ride there was this awesome descent that went for 2 miles and THAT was fun. The 5,000 ft of climbing wasn't much of a challenge either (of course, me being trained on the hills of sf, what else can you expect?) I bonked mometarily on miles 54, but I took this energy booster drink thing and I regained my strength. My total time was about 5 hours 45 minutes including really fast pee stops and about 15 minutes helping my friends with their flat tires until the SAG vehicle came.I didn't see any other 14 year olds on the century except for me and my two friends, so basicallly it was just us and adults the whole time. The temperature was about 82, but it felt 65 because of the wind. I simply LOVED the scenery! It reminded me of the ride I did in Sonoma County, with huge vineyards and mountains with autumn colors. And strangely enough, I was sore right after the ride, but after I got home, I felt normal. I think my next century will be the Solvang if I can get a ride there. Anyone else do the bonfante century?

Welcome to the world of long distance riding. Congrats on the century. I've done only two myself and am hooked. Planning on doing a century per month next year. Helps that my wife is into it also.
I agree with your anology of other races and riding. I don't see many races out there. I think this is something we've got to try and get people more aware of. Would be nice to have all races represented.
