    Just took my bike to the lake for a nice little 100 mile ride. I just looked through this whole thread and am super jealous of the steel 650 dyno hub yadda yadda bikes. I'd love to build one up some day, but for right now this is what I'm rolling with. The frame pack works great for a sandwich, apple, windbreaker, extra gloves and balaclava. My repair kit and spare tubular are in my jersey pocket. I do have to say riding tubulars was a great choice as far as ride quality IMO.
    I've also done a century in this but will definitely not do that again.

    State of my Indy Fab Ti Club Racer, built in 2006 when I was prepping for BMB. Its seen lots of dirt roads, and rides up to 400k. And some camping and exploring.

    Recently swapped out the 'long reach' Shimanos for Paul Racer Mediums. I can now fit some larger tires under fenders.
    And after breaking my 3rd rear Honjo I'm trying the PDW Full Metal Fenders.
    Took it out for a shakedown today to test the USBWerk powering the GoPro.

    To do - mount up the wired tailight (Secula+ (for post / stay mounting)), make a light bracket that will fit a Paul Rack Adapter bolt for the eDeluxe, and get something larger than Conti 28s or Pasela 28s to ride on. Likely the Clement USH or the new Compass tires in a 30 or 32. And figure out mounting / wiring for the USBWerk, and play with either my Ortlieb HBar Bag or the Jannd Mountain2 front bag. I also have a Revelate Tangle that will hold a 70oz bladder, with hose setup for longer rides.

    Started riding about 4 YO. Rode my first century on a Trek 1.2, three years ago. Got a Surly LHT 2 YO, and have several loaded centuries on it. Purchased a Specialized Roubaix 2-3 months ago. No centuries yet, but looking at attempting a double century this summer.

    My fresh updated titanium disc frenchie randonneur. I have been knocked by a driver one month ago, so front wheel and titanium disc fork were out of order. I also had Gilles Berthoud chrome fenders, the front one was also dead. So I bought a new full carbon disc fork, changed the front rim (H+SON Archetype in black) and remade the spoke lacing on the front hub (which was just new and safe, a White Industries MI6 disc). I also installed fresh new PDW matt grey fenders. They are less bling bling than Berthoud ones, but I finally prefer their look.

    Lately I've been using my soma doublecross for long distance duty. Not the lightest bike (Reynolds 631 main triangle) and not the lightest wheels (700 x32 tires, mavic A719 rims and Deore XT hubs) but it's comfy regardless of the road surface and I really like the gearing (48-36-26 sugino triple and 12-26 9 spd cassette on the rear). I've been doing a half century once a week on the bike and I'm looking forward to doing some longer rides soon:

    Thank you! The fenders are 700c SKS Longboards and the pump is a Silca Impero. It's since been swapped to a Zefal HPX.

    This is my latest love. Soma Grand Randonneur with Campa Veloce front and rear, and a lot of Velo Orange parts. SP PV-8 dynohub, Velo Orange Grand Cru rear hub, Selle Anatomica saddle, Gilles Berthoud front bag.
    In this picture she's dusty and dirty after 100K on questionable roads. Last Friday I rode 245K and everything seems to work just fine. Next weekend it's time for Vätternrundan, 300K.

    Hello how are you. This is my bike you think is okay for century? The most i have do is 40 miles and that is was around 2 years ago. Now i want do century. What is the best crank size and cassete size for century. this is my bike what you think. Is has 9 speed cassete20140720_132057.jpg

    Lots of people ride centuries on road bikes like yours. Only you can decide whether your bike is a good century bike for you. The most important questions are:

    Is the saddle comfortable for long rides? If it's a narrow racing saddle, and you find it uncomfortable after a couple hours, a wider saddle might be better.

    Are the handlebars comfortable for long rides?

    Is the riding position comfortable for long rides? If you're too stretched out, it might help to raise the bars.

    Is the gearing appropriate to the terrain? Keep in mind that you'll be more tired at the end of a century than at the beginning. It doesn't help to know that you have a 9-speed cassette without knowing the largest and smallest cog. A strong rider could do a hilly century with an 11-23 cassette and a 39/53 crankset, but I wouldn't recommend it. My current long-distance bike has a 13-30 cassette and 28/44 chainrings, which gives me a low gear of about 25 inches. I really appreciate that when I'm climbing a 10% grade at the end of a long day. The top gear is only 88 inches, but at a cadence of 100, that's 26 mph (42 km/h); if I am going downhill any faster than that, I coast to save energy for the next climb.

    I'd advise going out for some longer rides on the same kind of terrain as the century you're doing. If you can work up to 50 miles without feeling too tired or sore afterwards, then the bike is probably fine for a century. If not, change the gearing and fit as needed.

    Did 112 miles yesterday in nine hours. Eight hours actually on the bike and half an hour of that I spent stopped at red lights and trail crossings. Such is life in Chicagoland. The route took me from my apartment in the UIC area up to the Illinois-Wisconsin border and back.

    Bike is a 2014 Surly Pacer. It's mostly stock; my wife gave me the Cambium for my birthday, and I threw on a 46t chainring so I could actually use the big ring. Top picture is from yesterday, the bottom one is from a gorgeous April day on the lakefront.

    Thanks! It's got some flake in it so it sparkles in the sun. The previous color was nice too; my LBS had one in my size and I liked the silver components but when Surly put 105 on this year's model I was sold.
