2nd try

I'm about to try again to ride from Woodland Hills to Lake Arrowhead. It should be about 115 miles or so. This will be the 2nd try. The first time I hit the wall. I think because of the heat and improper nutrition. This time I'll be taking endurolytes and plenty to eat. It should be a lot cooler this time. The climb up the mountain starts at about mile 90. This time I'll be hauling the extra 10lbs of winter weight.

Last summer was way too hot. I remember your posts well. You should do fine this time. Good luck.

are you staying overnight or riding back in a car?
i'm sure you mentioned all this last time but i don't remember (and am too lazy to do a search), are you taking the back way (north side of the hills)?
good luck, i'm sure you'll make it this time

I have a place in Lake Arrowhead. My wife is driving up there. I'm riding up on Thursday. So far it's solo unless someone wants to join me. I hope to ride back too.

Damn this ride was difficult. I've done 100 mile rides with more climbing but the climb up waterman and the 18 sure seems like the hardest. I've gone up 38 and the 18 seems to be much more difficult. The climb started at mile 85, the temp at the base was 87, once Waterman merges with the 18 there is no relief from the sun until you get to Rimforest. Once up to 5000 foot the last bit to 5600 seems to steepen. The cateye hit 5000 right at the 5000 foot sign.
I got a flat on the 18. One guy stopped and offered me a ride up the mountain. He told me the 18 was dangerous because of all *******s going fast and not paying attention. Some of the cars did seems to be traveling at 80mph. There are spot where up have to ride next to a short barrier that has a long drop on the other side. 1 car going the other way saw this and honked. Some of the semis going up the mountain came pretty close.
I probably won't try this ride again unless I get a compact crank.
