My first double century

Rode my first double today. At arouund mile 84 my route was blocked by parade. Re-routing wasn't really an option for me. The State Trooper at the road block told me it should be about 15 minutes, so I rode back down the way I had come a couple of miles, hoping not to spend too much time off the bike. Still ended up waiting 20 minutes plus for the route to clear.

Total time out was 14:27:31 and I was on the bike moving 13:11:54 over a 209.35 mile ride. Ended up taking more break time than I wanted (and probably not as much as I needed, my second half pace took nearly a full mph off my average), but I'm happy overall with the ride.

Nice ride Pegleg, a double century is quite an accomplishment. I'm from the Pacific NW, but have spent some time in Kennebunk. Wife's uncle had a house on the water there that we visited once. I wasn't riding back then, although I wish I had been because it seemed like a great place to ride. The thing I remember the most was the "Shipyard Ale", very tasty indeed.

This is why I love my LBS...

Working up to this ride the last few weeks, I would always finish my long Saturday rides at the shop, so I could brag about my ever increasing distance. We knew I wouldn't get in this week before they closed, so I promised I would come in on Sunday and share my trip stories. When I arrived I was greeted with hardy congratulations...and a cake. That on top of the owner hooking me up with $25-$30 worth of supplies the night before I left.

My LBS freakin' rules.

Congratulations! That's an excellent time for that distance. Great that you have such a supportive bike shop too. My bike shop guys just ask: "What crazy ride are you doing this weekend?"

We get several thousand feet of climbing on our doubles out here in CA. How much climbing on yours?

That is AWESOME!

I am glad that you were able to finish that challenging goal in such a short amount of time.

Also, shaving only 1 MPH off your average for the second century is pretty dang good... sometimes it can be MUCH more!
