Do you ever get the post century blahs???

I did my first century last saturday, as I already discussed. And I was really really looking forward to it. The actual ride was great, and I totally felt enlightened. Afterwards, all the thinking I could do was bike think. Bike bike bike bike. BUT I could not get myself back on the thing. Seriously. I did a totally half arsed recovery ride on monday, and that's it.

Today rolled around, and I had the day off. I was dying to get on the bike, until I actually got dressed and ready. Then I sat around and wasted half the morning. I had an epic ride after all today, one of my best rides ever, but it took FOREVER to get moving. What the hell?

No, you probably did an "anti-recovery" ride.

It's great you are enthusiastic and excited about riding. But now that you've learned enough to be able to ride all day, soon you'll need to learn how to rest all day. (as well as what recovery rides really are)

I hear you. It did take a few days. I was bike minded, and felt great but couldn't bring myself to get back on there and go. I think I would like to do another century before the end of the season. And we'll see what happens.

Maybe a lot of it is just my own mental hype. When you look forward to something and train for it for a couple months, it's weird when it's over. Maybe I should register for another one next month so I have something to anxiously await, and train for.

"Anti-recovery ride" Heh. Yeah, that's pretty much how it felt. Little lessons to think about next time around.

I also figured out that I need to do more club rides, and social spins. I rode harder and had so much fun with the people I met, that it was kind of a drag to go back to riding by myself. I joined quite a large local club last saturday, so that should be cool. I'm a loner by nature, and will enjoy my solo excursions more if I add a variety to the usual routine. I think that's a big part of it.

Now if I could just con my girlfriend into riding her little Trek once in a while.....

I didn't have time to get the blahs. The day after my first century I had to do another 80 to complete the ride I was doing. Total of 192 miles over the two days. Only problem I had was on the second day, didn't really want to get back on the bike, but forced myself to. Within a couple miles, I was fine. After the second day, I thought I might have a letdown, but was so psyched after the ride, it never happened! Only regret is that due to time limitations, I won't be able to do another century till next year. Will have to be satisfied with some 40's and 50's.....

Not me. I set out to do 12 in 2005 in a CAM challenge. ended up doing 23 I got so happy!

The days after I did some mtn century rides, I did ez 42 milers. Feels good.

I have some friends that consider themselves serious cyclist. They od a 50 mile organized ride then take 3 months off the bike! Hahahaha!
