There is a rather steep 6.5 mile climb to the turnaround point at Caesars Head State Park. Since it’s the turnaround you do get to ride back down though.

Do you live in the area?

No I don't but I've ridden with a couple of your Randonneurs. I would love to come up and do this ride but I have a 400K down here that day.

I've done both the 200K and 300K Spartanburg rides the last two years. Local RBA Bethany Davison does a great job, and the brevets are well run affairs.

If the weather cooperates I'll likely do the 200K on 3/8. I don't have fenders on either of my bikes so riding in the rain for 120+ miles is not particularly inviting. I'm debating whether to ride my race bike or the Riv Quickbeam.

I guess that’s the Gainesville ride you’re doing. My 400 will be the Raleigh ride. I’ll see how the first three go and then think about a 600.

It's going to be high 50's with sunny skies
How many riders have there been the last two years?

I'm hoping for 65 degrees with 60 at the summit of Caesar's Head. Two years ago the turnout for the 200K was quite substantial; last year not so much, which surprised me in that last year was a PBP year. For what it's worth, here are some ride reports from two years ago.

Thanks for the links, a very informative read. If you ride on the 8th look for a 22 year old with an apprehensive look on her face and say HI.

    This girl likes gears

Cold it was! According to weather.com the high temperature of the ride (48 degrees F) was at 7:00 AM when it started. Then it dropped like a rock to the low forties. There was also a consistent 20+ mph wind from the SW, which meant that we were going into a stiff headwind the entire outward leg of the ride.

I got there fashionably late and started at 7:15 after the others had gone. I rode my Rivendell Quickbeam with a 42t chainwheel and a two-speed White Industries 17/19 freewheel in back. Next year I'll ride gears on this course. The course is very hilly; I was cooked from fighting the headwinds by the time I got to Caesar's Head mountain, and the 42x19 combination was still too much gear for a few of the steeper switchbacks. Walking is not dishonorable!

Weather was a mix of sunshine, clouds, light rain, and sleet on Caesar's Head.

I finished just before 6:00 PM with an elapsed time of 10:57 (which, of course, includes the late start). All in all, a tough day at the office.
