Sebring 12Hr/How many years do I have left
I'm 59 yrs old and completed my first century last November in 8.5 hrs. Last Saturday I completed my 2nd century as part of the Sebring 12 hour race. Total time 8hrs 2min. But what blew me away was that finishing just 10 seconds behind me was the oldest competitor at 82 yrs. 82 years old and still riding centuries. That guy actually completed 127miles in 12 hours. As for me, I pulled/strained the outside of my left knee at the 50 mile mark and willed myself to complete the 101.5 ( afterall I paid $75 to enter plus a hotel room-had to get my monies worth). I was disappointed that I couldn't go on since the rest of my body felt great ( much better than after the first century) and I thought I could do a few more laps to up the mileage. But I opted to rest the knee. Better to fight another day I figured.
Many times I think to myself, why didn't I start distance riding 10 years ago or 15 and how many more years can I continue riding the distances/challenges that I relish . But now I know that, assuming I remain in good health and the desire is still there, I've got another 20 years to enjoy this sport. My hats off to that guy and all like him who continue to enjoy bike riding and challenging themselves in their later years. I guess middle/old age is a continually moving target for some and I'd like to think that cycling is a good reason for it.

Leroy Varga did a full SR series (200, 300, 400, and 600) last year at the age of 80, went to PBP but couldn't finish after having heart palpitation's somewhere in the middle.
I'd say you can go as long as you keep going, know what I mean?
