water-bottle cage on the handlebars

i'm tossing around the idea of slapping a water bottle on my handlebars. anyone do this?

looks like harris cyclery used to carry minoura's handle-bar mount, but not anymore. (says "out of stock forever" or something)

so, anyone know where you can find/make a way to mount one water bottle on your handlebars?

if i can't find anything pre-made i'm thinking of use p-clamps & some electric tape, but there's got to be a better way! fill me in, please.

Try bikeparts.com or ask at the LBS. I know there are a few designs out there. There's always ebay.

I'm a big fan of MacGuyvering stuff for my bike out of hardware store parts, but I think Topeak might have you covered on this one with this thing.
If you have the space, I envision clamping it to your stem and angling it up to mount a cage near vertical on it.

Either that or get a spare h'bar bag mount and rig up a way to mount a couple of bottle cages to it.

If you just want to go cheap on it; a conduit hanger, a joiner plate, and 5 minutes with a Dremel. You can make a quick and dirty (and really lightweight considering it will cost all of $1.50) bottle cage mounting bracket.

I put this on my wife's bike--she didn't have room for a second frame style cage. It needs some type of rubbery material between the metal "strap" and the handlebar to keep it from creeping but it will do for now.

I'll be hanging out at My favorite LBS today, he has a bunch of what you want just sitting in the corner. I'll see if I can get the product name for you.

I use strips of old inner tubes for any application of that sort.

yeah i bought the minoura one just before the ride, and used it. (LBS had it after all)

it was great to have, but my right hand is hurting a bit because of the lost hand position (my theory) after the 400k. my handlebars are too thick to mount it towards the center..

but i think it'll work great on my other bike!

Using a handlebar mount you can modify your drinking to 'no hands'.
Remove the plastic plunger in center of bottle cap. In the empty hole insert a plastic tube. Go to local hardware and get proper sized plastic tubing. Cut tubing long enough so all you have to do is bend your head down a bit to 'sip 'n ride'.
Photo shows my double-bottle set-up on my racing bike.
Been using this set-up since mid-1970s. Works great for me!
Pedal on!
