Strawberry NesQuik (I'm allergic to chocolate), chips (if I'm low on salt), cheeseburgers, yogurt smoothies, sausage breakfast sandwiches, V8, Mountain Dew.
Ain't we a healthy-eatin' bunch?
SP
Bend, OR
ps - does anybody else find themselves walking thru the local supermarket (on a "normal" shopping trip), looking at something and thinking, "that'd be good on a long ride"? Or, "hey, there's the V8 - wish I was doing a 600 right now"?

Yeah Fig Newtons! I forgot that. Those are high on my list as well.
I am surprised by the number of beef jerky and chocolate milk responses. Jerky seems like a big gut bomb that is hard to digest; I'm sure it works for people. Maybe I over think nutrition but those items seem better for after ride fuel rather than during ride fuel. My research has lead me to understand the body needs complex carbs and electrolytes (sodium and potassium) while riding. Chocolate milk after a ride is a whole other matter. I have read it is one of the best bang for your buck recovery drinks out there. Wish I could find more organic milk at stores or at least something without high fructose corn syrup.

There is a Big Foot station in Cambridge City, Indiana that sells cheese pizza by the slice. So that with a ice cold bottle of coke out front under the shade trees(man I wish it were summer time again)

Around here, most gas stations are huge nowdays. Gas station/mini-mart(that aren't really very mini)/fast food chains/you name it, all in one. You can get all kinds of food.
Liquor stores usually only carry liquor and stuff like chips, cheese puffs, slim jims.
That said, for the purpose of the conversation, I'll say that my favorites are bananas, and sourdough nibbler pretzels from Snyders of Hanover. A snickers occasionally, but I've usually got my favorite Clifs with me(Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch) so I don't need more chocolate. Sometimes I get a huge craving for orange juice on long rides.

On long rides, I usually become pretty tired of carbo-drink/gels/energy bars so I often get something like a cheeseburger or slice of pizza when I buy food at a gas station.

Mmm Snickers almond bar, peanut butter and almond M&Ms, and sourdough nibbler pretzels from Snyders of Hanover. Good suggestions!
I enjoyed some fire cheetos and a Mexican Coke on a 40 mile mountain bike ride the other weekend. Great stuff! Why Mexican Coke you might ask? Well because it has real sugar and not high fructose corn syrup. When I have the option of the real stuff I go for it every time.

Maybe a marguaritta without the vodka!
Actually Chocalate milk gets my top vote. Seems to lead the survey. Wonder what consensus would be for LD riders if you had a hypothetical situation being burnt out and could only have one item. C.Milk would be mine.
V8 seems to be another popular choice. Since I don't like the spices I prefer just regular Tomato juice.
For a solid food, probably go for a pizza slice or Micro-ham sandwich. Snickers for sugar snack.
