2010 1000-Kilometer Month Challenge

For those who find a 1000-mile month challenge a bit too challenging for all 12 months of the year, here's another motivational challenge to participate in.

The challenge: Ride 1000 kilometers (~622 miles) in at least one month of the year. Go for all 12 if you can!!

Ride ... enjoy ... report!!

If you have managed to cycle 1000 miles in a month, check out the 1000-Mile Month Challenge here: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...onth-Challenge

I just calculated I can ride 2000km in one month. Sorry, not riding long distance yet, but am sure willing to get into it. I just commute.

1206km for January with 14891 metres of climbing. I'm pretty happy with that month.

So close! I made 605 miles in January.

Congrats to the kilometer crunchers and mileage monsters who can do the 1000km and 1000mi months!

How have the last few months of cycling been for you? It has been winter here, and not much cycling, but the northern hemisphere people have been riding all summer ...

I got 1150km in last month. Mainly due to a 5 day 850km CC tour.

Was hoping for 1000 mile month but winter colds and out of shape legs had other ideas.

Had 800 miles in June and July, dropped back to 748 for August. Looking forward to a cooler ride tomorrow, the heat's kind of let up.

On a somewhat related note, apparently an enterprising individual, Chris Ragsdale, covered 1000km in under 32 hours:

I.e. you are all slackers.

A number of people in this forum will likely be doing the 1000 km randonnee this year (the 1000K has a time limit of 75 hours) and should be able to report at least one 1000 km month because of that.

Doing the 1000K in 32 hours is really good. I did my one and only in about 67 or 68.

I got 1023km in June, thanks to 1023km of touring through Switzerland on the tandem. Fantastic. Have not spent much time on the bike since though

Today's not the day to get back on, 80km winds with 100km gusts -

I've just accomplished something I have not managed to do since May 2009 ... with Rowan's help and encouragement, and over many rides on both the single bicycle and the tandem, I have managed to ride 1000 km in the month of October!!

No ride was over 100 km ... there was just a lot of regular riding, getting out there almost every day.

I notched up my 1000km month on Sunday with the 200km randonnee on the tandem with Machka. She got in a couple of extra rides worth 86km while we were away for me to do a heavy truck driving course. So I trailled her on getting there, and ended up with 1126km.

My last 1000km month was January 2009. Then in February came the bushfires that destroyed my home. I am happy to be back on track... and riding with Machka.

October was my first month since March that I didn't hit 1000 km, finishing with only 900 km.

Fortunately, I'm still on track to exceed my goal of averaging 1000 km per month in 2010. I'm already at about 11,500 km for the year, so only about 500 km to go and 2 months left to do it in.

Thanks to everyone on this forum for their inspiration and knowledge!
