    Garmin 705 on long rides

If riding long, is it necessary to reset the Garmin 705 at a particular distance or time? I'm thinking in terms of rides over 150 miles or 12 hours. Thanks in advance.

I've used mine quite successfully on a 24-hour race and multiple brevets. I use a Minty Boost to keep it powered after 14 hours. I've had problems with other logging websites recognizing the ride track if it crosses midnight, but that was their software bug and now it's fixed.

I was wondering how you were going to keep it charged for that time period. Is this "minty boost" just for the 705, or can I use it for my 305 forerunner too?

it's actually more generic than that. It will charge anything that can charge over USB.

That's the one! I've tried so many other devices - Duracell and Eveready products, but nothing's as foolproof and reliable as the MB. Plus, it doesn't cause my Garmin to reset when it's plugged in.

I had no problems doing a double century (over 2 days) with the Edge 705 with a single charge. After about 14hrs of usage, there's still 20% or slightly less juice left.

You should have no problem leaving it on for 12 hrs straight!

I use the MB so I can run the backlight at the lowest setting at night without worrying that it would run out.

used mine last year on lots of long rides

I've had mine on for lots of 100-120 mile rides lasting between 12 and 14 hours with no problem. I also used it on RAIN 167 miles (starting from the hotel) in 9h 53 min with no problem.

I had reasonable luck with a cheap USB charger I bought on radio shack while on vacation.

I read where the 305 forerunner will only last for 10 hours, where the Edge will last 18.

So another Garmin Question.. Say I have the charging issue figured out. The 705 records all your performance information during a ride, but at some point it will run out of memory and start recording over itself.. How can I keep all my performance info on a 40 to 90 hour ride? I obviously don't want to stop and download to a computer during the ride. Is there a solution?

It won't run out of memory if you have updated firmware, I had over 200 hours on mine and it wasn't even close to filling up

You can have a problem with laps within a single ride that long but I don't think you'll lose any performance data. My garmin currently has over 400 hours of ride data in it and the storage is nowhere near full.

Any idea how many fulll 705 charges you can get out of a pair of batteries?
