My first 100km
Well, I think I'm hooked on this LD thing... I've never done more that 70km a day, and so I decided to go for the "metric century" today and did it in 3 hours and 53 seconds. I didn't check the wind before I left and my route had at least 60km going right into the wind :(
I took a few short rest stops and almost lost my **** around 80k in on account of the wind and the hills... but I turned a corner around 85km and was gifted with tail-wind and downhills for the rest of the ride, so I made up for some lost time and felt a bit better about the whole ride. My "training" thus far has consisted of a 20km r/t commute and the occasional recreational ride into the country... I'm pretty surprised that I made the 100 and even more surprised I did it as quickly as I did. I think I will be hurting tomorrow though :twitchy: |
Congratulations on the ride. I aim for 4 hours, myself, so yes, the time is good. If you were pretty well wiped out when you finished, you could probably back off on speed a bit and extend your distance. Or if you felt good when you finished, you're probably good to go try a 100 mile or 200k route when you have a chance.

As soon as I got out of the headwind I was fine and could have done longer... I'm going to do an imperial century in the next few weeks and do that at a more relaxed pace. I was pushing it a bit hard for the first 50k but I'm not sure if that was tail-winds or just my own excitement.

Nice work. That is not slow by any standards if there are hills and headwinds involved.
