Been almost a year since I got my LD rig a Cross Check, at the time I got a Scott Chromoplast fender, while it serves it's purpose it's a little flimsy. The front Srut bracket had broken within a few days but I still managed with it somehow by doing a quick fix job with superglue. I installed the fender again since it's rainy season now... and the bracket has once again failed.

I'll be taking this bike to PBP so thought I'll get new fenders instead on relying on my old ones. Can't decide over which ones to get, there are a few options

1. SKS CAB mudguards

2. Bontrager NCS Road

3. SKS Wide Road

I'm a bit confused of which one to go for!!!! What I can make out is that clearly SKS stands on its own when it comes to build quality, finish and looks. While the Bontrager are new ones and seem to have the practicality with adjustable struts, so can be used on another bike if required.

So what would you guys put your money on??

I have no experience with the Bontragers so I can't comment on those.

Just to be difficult, I'm going to suggest a couple other options you didn't mention. On my commuter bike I went through about three sets of SKS fenders in three years. They all failed where the rear fender attaches to the seatstay bridge, but each in slightly different ways. Then I tried Planet Bike Cascadias and they're still going strong after three years.

For my brevet bike I like aluminum fenders. They offer better coverage, they hold up very well and they look shnazzy. I've had great luck with the Velo Orange aluminum fenders. They're a little more work to install, but once on, they're more like a permanent part of the bike than any plastic fenders.

well the problem is I live in India & here such quality fenders are not available & I'm not sure if the VO or Planet Bike will ship here. Evans & CRC do so the only ones available there are an option!!!!

BTW the local metal fenders here are made of Steel; so heavy that you can seriously hurt someone if you hit with them .

I put on the smooth VO aluminum fenders, and they failed at the seatstay bridge after less than 2000 miles. I used the leather washers and the fender was not under any strain other than the normal road vibration. So I'm thinking plastic for my next fender set, too. I see the Planet Bike Cascadias are aluminum bonded to polycarbonate. Does that mean the fender is actually two layers bonded together? If so maybe the Lexan is structural and the aluminum just there for the shiny?
