Lutsen 99 mile race and how to ride and take in every

Ok all I know about long distance rides and training as i have done long distance rides
it is winter here now so doing xc skiing

but right now i want to do this big cycling event at end of June 2012

its in Lutsen MN, called the Lutsen 99

It is a 99 mile race. more less mt bike race.
does a combinations of trails, paved road, dirt and gravel road

did not do it this year but will be doing it for 2012

The winner this past year did it in just over 6 hours

So what i like is some advice on people who have done long distance events.

this is a mt bike type of thing

what do you recommend for on the bike snacks? so something to get instant energy and ride non stop.

i usually drink water from a camel bak
so should i have one bottle with evergy drink in my bottle holder or should i bring 2

how often should i be eating on the 99 mile race?

Who in this forum has done a similar event?

What is best for food, should i be best to take in best calories the day before as race is early in the morning on the race day?

just curious as this will be different from what i have done i did one 8 hour enduro back in august

I would try Perpetuem. A lot of people I know rely on it

I don't do "snacks" on the bike. I carry FUEL: Spiz, Larabars, gel, etc. Perpetuem worked OK for me for a year, and then abruptly didn't. Spiz works much better for me: mixes up better, goes down easy even in hot weather and mixed "strong" (500+ cal/bottle), and gives amazing blood sugar stability. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Spiz uses whey protein (from milk), while Perpetuem uses soy.

But whatever you use, make sure you take in 2-300 cal/hr from the start. Any more than that and your body probably won't be able to take it in; any less and you risk bonking.
