Any organizations/books/info for long non-racing rides?
Seems like all the info I have found about how to do long distance riding has been geared towards racing or beating times.
Was wondering if there are any long distance cycling info/books/sites/organizations out there about distance for fun.

See my Links page: https://www.machka.net/links.htm
The first section are links to 24-hour races, but then it gets into all sorts of other types of cycling ... randonneuring, touring, other long distance stuff.
And while you're at it ... most of the rest of my site is about long distance for fun.

I can tell you that very little of the randonneuring I do is "geared towards" beating times. There are time limits, on the fast end as well as the slow, and most people that are interested in, and capable of, covering the distance aren't going to have too much trouble fitting in between those times. So if you're riding at a "normal" pace, you pretty much don't worry about the times unless you get into a multi-day ride or something much out of the ordinary. The first 200k I ever did was on a Worksman single-speed cruiser, and I finished with time to spare.

You asked about books - check out John Hughes and Dan Kehlenbach's Distance Cycling also.

Randonneuring is all about long-distance riding, without much focus on times. Sure, there ARE time constraints, but they're pretty generous, at least for the single-day lengths.
If you're looking for multi-day riding, without time constraints, then perhaps you should look into touring. If you want multi-day organized rides that don't have serious time constraints, I'd point to you to events like RAGBRAI.

Something else I will mention is that RUSA has introduced a couple of new perm types, one being oriented towards touring. I don't remember where I saw that and will have to look it up.

Thanks!
It's always under construction in some way ... some of the links cease being valid, I find other new links (and when I return to Australia, I'll have to go through and double check them all). There are some other sections which really need work ... more short tour, randonnee, and other long distance stories! It's just a matter of finding time to keep everything up to date.
