    Semi-official randonneur finally

After years of talking and reading about it, and going out on adventures by myself but not under any official randonneur event banner....I've finally signed up with RUSA and will be riding this year. It looks like the first ride in my area isn't until March. Time to get more base miles in and get the bikes set up exactly how I want them to be. I'm excited.

Welcome to the "club". We're to help, and if we can't, we just like gabbing about the sport.

Hi, Wolf. I`m just a half step ahead of you- registered in Oct and have my first brevet this comming Monday. No blizzards, please!
Independence is in the Wilamette Valley, isn`t it? Are you planning to ride mostly with the Portland club?

You are correct...it's a small town just outside of Salem. The Portland area rides are the closest for me, but it's close enough to go to and will be mainly who I will participate with. If everything aligns, I may try some of the Washington rides as well if I have the free time. The toughest part will be finding the dates that match up to free weekends (when I don't have National Guard drills).

I still ride with the Salem Bicycle Club now and then, and a few of them participate in the various rando rides around the area.

If the dates of the brevets don't work for you, maybe you can do some of the Permanents with some of the other local randos. According to the Permanent search map on the RUSA website, Permanents page, Permanents search subpage, the Portland area is littered with Perms (200+ kms) and Permanent-Populaires (100 - 199 kms).

(There appears to be only one Perm that starts in or just outside Salem; but it is a one-way 287-km route to Olympia, WA.)

    Enjoy the ride.
